What to expect
Never been to a CODE concert? Wonder what it's like and want to learn before you show up? That's perfectly okay! This page is for you! Read below to learn about the CODE concert experience.
What is “new music?”
CODE performs music that’s being written by living composers. Most of the time, it’s new “classical” music. However, living composers are influenced by LOTS of other music like pop, blues, jazz, and rock, as well as the music and sounds of cultures from around the globe. This is what Mozart would be composing if he were alive today.
What will I hear?
You’ll hear music you’ve never heard before by composers you’ve never heard of. A lot of times these composers are from here in Ohio and represent all kinds of backgrounds! Sometimes they come to the concerts and you can talk to them! You can’t talk to Mozart. He’s dead…sorry.
Do I need to know anything about the music before the concert?
Nope! Come and be surprised. It’s like trying a new dish at the new restaurant in town. Everyone’s taste is different but with how diverse our shows are, you’ll for sure find something that sparks your imagination!
What does it cost?
Most CODE shows are completely free admission. Our musicians are paid through grants and donations. We love the music we’re making and we want you to love it too!
What do I wear?
Be comfortable! We usually perform in jeans. Ever read the great American novel while wearing a tuxedo and sipping champagne? Neither have we. Just come experience the music as you are and have a great time.
Where do I sit?
Anywhere you want. We don’t have assigned seats at our shows. First-come-first-served.
Can we talk to the musicians?
Heck yeah! We LOVE meeting new people and talking about the music. We typically don't walk on-and-off stage since we play in art galleries and not in concert halls. It's casual and relaxed. Come hang out.
Anything else I should know?
Sometimes we perform in venues that serve alcohol. In that case, enjoy responsibly. Feel free to bring drinks to your seats.
