CODE is excited to return to the Garden Theater for the New Music at Short North Stage series sponsored by the Johnstone Fund for New Music on Wednesday, May 18 at 7pm! This FREE concert will feature the music of Ohio composer, Donald Erb (1927-2008). Erb was an early pioneer of electronic and electro-acoustic music. For more info about the show, check out the Facebook Event Page!
The first piece on the program, Sunlit Peaks and Dark Valleys, was Erb’s musical reaction to the Oklahoma City bombing, and specifically to the tragic loss of young lives. The final work, Quintet, mixes traditional instruments with harmonicas, crystal water goblets, and electric piano, creating haunting and exotic sound clouds and dramatic gestures with a sense of improvisation and spontaneity.
Check out this great podcast about the concert done by Kylie Harwell Sturgill from WOSU's Classical 101!
"If I am doing what I want to do with my music, it will have the clarity of classical music, the passion of romanticism, and the freedom of jazz"
- Donald Erb
